By using the behaviour of fluid oscillations, vortex and other types of oscillatory flow meters can determine a fluid’s velocity and rate.
It does this by utilising the fluid’s own properties – its pressure, density, and viscosity, for example – to induce fluctuations in it. These fluctuations create vortices that the flow meter detects to make its measurements.
