Offshore Europe: Gone but not forgotten

This year?s Offshore Europe was the biggest yet. Over 63,000 people attended the show over its four days from 3-6 September and at times it seemed as though most of them had found their way to our stand!

Litre Meter was just one of 1,500 companies exhibiting in the 27,217 m2 space. So it?s just as well that we had a number of new products on show to draw people to our stand. It allowed us to make the most of a valuable opportunity to demonstrate our expertise to an international audience.

The new product line-up included a new low-flow capability rotary piston flowmeter, new Swagelok® connections, a new project documentation system and a new display.

The new flowmeter is the LF03. It is the latest in a series of low-flow VFF rotary piston meters and takes the capability of the range down to lower flows than ever before ? for example, on a fluid with a viscosity of 5 cP the LF03 will measure down to 0.015 litres/hour rather than 0.024 litres/hour for the LF05 and 0.065 litres/hour for the LF15.

This drew a lot of interest to the stand when we demonstrated its capabilities using our whisky rig set-up. There were a couple of dissenting voices who thought it sacrilegious to use good whisky for demonstration purposes. One or two visitors even thought we were distilling it!

Alongside the new meters we showed our new 0.5 inch Swagelok® connections which are available for all small VFF meters. They consist of two 0.5 inch OD tube ends pre-fitted with 0.5 inch Swagelok unions and travelling caps, making it much easier to fit meters on site.

We also unveiled a new electronic project documentation system. Details of each meter supplied as part of a single project ? for example, all the meters supplied for a particular chemical injection skid ? will be held at a unique URL. The website will include items such as calibration certificates, PMI certificates and material certificates as well as specifications, manuals and instructions.

The address of the website will be printed on a chemical-resistant and wear-resistant label securely attached to each meter. The label will also carry a QR code linking to the website which will make it easy for service personnel on site to call up all the documentation on a smart phone by simply pointing it at the label.

Completing our new product line-up at Offshore Europe was a new Flowpod display unit. This is an evolution of the existing large 8 digit LCD display to provide additional functionality which has been requested by users, including the facility to display flow rate, total flow and analog rate. It has a removable Micro SD card for programming and offers 4-20 mA, HART and pulse outputs as standard.

The new Flowpod can be directly mounted on the meter without a cable loop and the display can be adjusted to any angle. It will be ATEX, IECEx and CSA approved and comes in a 4 inch diameter stainless steel or aluminium enclosure ? just two-thirds the diameter of the current Flowpod. A new sensor with cartridge and connector design provides easy change-out.

There was a sombre note with respects paid to those who lost their lives in the Shetland helicopter crash but it was great to be part of such a successful event and we will be back in 2015.
